Fuschia Hat

A couple of weeks ago while at Sunday knitting I was working on a fairisle hat. After a while, it just needed too much attention, so I picked up some Nashua yarn and started knitting away. It’s the hat that prompted this post.
I really loved the colors, but I am a pale skinned, brown (er, red) haired, light-eyed person, and the colors were too bold for me. So the hat languished, waiting for me to think of the proper person to gift it to.
Last week, I was putting together a box for my cousin’s ninth birthday, and I realized that this hat would be perfect for her.
On this particular hat, I chose to rib as soon as I stopped increasing, instead of knitting about 4 inches plain and then ribbing to the end. Instead of any fancy edgings, I just did a sewn bind-off. I think the yarn itself is loud enough, I didn’t need to fancy it up.
Of course, as soon as I put it in the box, I saw that I messed up one (one!) stitch. I purled when I should have knit. GAH! I didn’t want the box to be late so I sent it anyway but it’s been bugging me. I keep on trying to tell myself that these things happen and it’s not that noticeable…. and it’s no use. Don’t you hate it when that happens?
