Purely Whimsical

I’d just gotten finished with the waist shaping on my hoodie when I realize in horror that I had missed one waist decrease. Ripping out to that last waist increase is practically half of the knitting I’ve already done. That was about a week ago.

Today I finally was able to face the fact that because I tend to be -um- picky, I would just have to rip out the increases and go back and fix it. Other -perhaps better- people would be able to move on, but something like that would sit in the back of my head nagging at me until I fixed it. ..Even if that means cutting up a finished sweater and reknitting a portion. I know, it sounds psychotic, but that’s just the way I am.

I am not psychotic, even though it sounds that way! Speaking of sounding psychotic, HWSNBN finally admitted the other day that I wasn’t crazy for not liking mushrooms because they squeak when I eat them. I mean, it sounds weird, doesn’t it? If I don’t like the way my food sounds, I won’t eat it. Nyah.

You see… gluten free bagels squeak when you eat them. It’s just the way it is. I can ignore it in bagels because they are just so damn good, but in mushrooms, not so much. I offered to share my bagels with HWSNBN and he told me no. When I pressed him as to why (because we both love bagels), concerned that maybe it was because the bagels were one of those foods that just doesn’t translate well to gluten free and I can’t tell because I haven’t had wheat on purpose in years, he admitted that it was because they squeaked.

Ha! You should have seen the look on his face the first time I told him I didn’t like mushrooms because they squeaked. The disbelieving sneer, the shifty eyes, the snide comments. I feel so vindicated and I would like to restate that I Am Not Psychotic.

Um. Back to knitting.

So I finally ripped out to where I could do the last decrease, and I set it aside for a little bit so I could recover. Because ripping out is traumatizing, you know?

A little later, as I got up I heard a little
>pop<
and my heart stopped.

Frantically I pulled the needles out of the sweater, and yes indeed I had broken a needle. I almost cried. Instead, I walked away and resigned myself to contacting Knitpicks again to replace a needle. Which meant I couldn’t start knitting on it this weekend, like I planned.

I was feeling pretty low until about 30 minutes ago, when I found the superglue. I superglued those pieces together and filed away the excess with a nail file, then buffed it with a nail buffer and I once again can knit the sweater.
