For the past couple of years, I’ve been knitting almost non stop in my personal time. All I could think about was knitting and more knitting. About a month ago, I stopped. Knitting that is.
I’m not entirely sure why. Some of it is I had some friends give me a hard time about my knitting; specifically that I don’t enjoy knitting sweaters. In their opinion, why should you knit if you aren’t knitting sweaters?
I thought about it, and realized I knit for enjoyment. I am perfectly happy purchasing something knitted such as a sweater or a hat, and have done so even when I’ve been knitting. I just don’t enjoy knitting things like sweaters. There’s too much to keep track of, and it frustrates and bores me.
After the last time of getting teased about not being a sweater knitter, I just quit. As the others in my knitting group said, you’re not a REAL knitter if you don’t knit sweaters. While I don’t buy into that bit of snobbery, I did realize that I’m just not excited by knitting anymore. I was bored.
So I started quilting, which I am enjoying. It started with a class I took at a local quilting shop to make a tote bag which was quite fun - lots of work! - but fun.
I’ll edit the post with pics once I get them put up.
I guess I’m going to have to change my byline; I’m no longer obsessed with knitting. Am I going to be quilting now? I don’t know.
