Purely Whimsical

A while ago I promised the pictures I have of Ethan to family members. There was talk of mailing USB sticks, CDs, etc. It’s taken a while to find USB sticks, remember where they were, get them to the right people, etc etc etc.

Yesterday, I had a brainstorm. After all, we have the internet, why not use it? So in the next week or so, I’ll put up a photo gallery site with an album of Ethan’s pics. That way, friends and family can just visit the site and grab the pictures as they like.

I’ll probably set it up so it requires login authentication for most of the pics, but that’s just because I frequent some sites where people scour the web for fun pics to photoshop, that is, alter in sometimes funny and sometimes horrifying ways. So I’d like to make sure they photos aren’t available to just anyone.

Also when you login, you should be able to upload pictures if you like. I’m planning for right now to use the software called Gallery to manage the pictures.

I know I could use a popular web hosting site like Flickr, but I prefer my pictures to be on my server. (Maybe I should really start on that backup system now too?)

More to come. Hopefully it won’t take too long to set up and configure.
