Is there a network admin in the house?

For the past couple of weeks, I’ve been unable to reach my server from my home computers, which is why there hasn’t been any posts for a while. Now, I have a day job as a network administrator, so troubleshooting the issue shouldn’t be too much of a problem right?
I have a great plan for figuring out what’s going on, but it’s been so much easier to do nothing about it since all that’s been affected is that I can’t reach my server. I’ve got kind of a complicated network here at home. I’ve got the server this blog is on, I’ve got a wireless SOHO (Small Office / Home Office) device I’m testing for work, and another wireless that I use because the SOHO and my linux laptop don’t play nice with each other. Honestly, it’s not horribly complicated, but complicated enough that I just don’t want to spend time figuring it out when I get home from work… because to do that would be just like work.
I know, I’m a lazy wimp. Sorry.
Also, I’m a little slow. I just realized today that I could get around this issue by connecting to my work VPN…. which is how I’m posting right now.
Okay, so some of the time off from posting wasn’t because of the stuff above. Some of it was because I went to sunny San Jose for some training. I drove in to San Francisco for an afternoon and watched the moon rise.
So, hypothetically speaking, do you know what can happen if you go on a business trip to California and find out when you get there that your license is expired? That hypothetical person will be told at the rental counter in the airport that no one will rent to them, but a rental agency can be called who WILL rent to them. All you need is a valid credit card.
As a side note, I know someone who paid $35 for a cab ride from the airport to their hotel 5 miles away.
You know, it was really good to have a car since my hotel didn’t have a restaurant. They had a nice breakfast buffet, but no food. Fortunately PF Chang’s was only about 2 blocks away. I really like their lettuce wraps, and it’s so nice to go to a new city and know you can get something gluten free. I’ve never been wheat poisoned by PF Chang’s.
I’ll post pics soon.
