Crafting the Holidays
by tr3n1ty on Oct.19, 2008,under Announcements, I'm getting crafty, Knitting, Knitting, Spinning, Spinning
Last weekend, I was at the knitting shop with a couple of knitting buddies, and we started talking about Christmas. Usually what we do around the holidays is do a small gift exchange, say no more than $20-$30 between each other. We decided this time we’d do something different. We hammered out the details today.
We are all spinners and knitters, so what we decided to do was a round robin. It’s only three of us; M, K, and T(me). What we will do is one person will spin up some yarn (by Thanksgiving), then we will pass the yarn over to be knitted into a lacy scarf, then that person will give the knitted gift to the last person in the round.
M will spin yarn, give it to T, who will knit it up, and give it to K.
K will spin yarn, give it to M, who will knit it up, and give it to T.
T will spin yarn, give it to K, who will knit it up, and give it to M.
So in the end, we will have a lovely gift from both of the people in our knitting/spinning circle. I’m really happy with this idea, I think we will all receive something we will treasure.
I think we may be starting just a little bit late, but it’s such a wonderful idea! It will be a double surprise. First, we won’t exactly know the yarn that will be produced, and second, what pattern will be chosen?
One of the things about giving knitted gifts is that you’re never sure of how the recipient will like or even appreciate the gift. Far too many people don’t have any appreciation for the amount of work that goes in to even a simple knitted hat. So it will be so very nice to be sure that our work will be appreciated.
